Helmut J. F. Salzer, M.D., M.P.H., is a senior clinician at the Department for Pulmonary Medicine at the Kepler University Hospital in Linz, Austria.
After his medical degree in 2008 he worked 3 years as a research fellow at the Medical University of Graz, Austria. During this time he also received his Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) with study visits in Denmark, Norway and Germany. From 2012 to 2018 he worked at the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf and the Research Center Borstel in Germany. Dr. Salzer is board certified in internal medicine, respiratory medicine, infectious diseases and palliative care.
His clinical and scientific interests are chronic pulmonary infections including chronic pulmonary aspergillosis (CPA), endemic mycoses and mycobacterial infections. He published 72 publications in peer-reviewed journals in the last 12 years and is co-founder of the CPAnet, a self-organized research network promoting clinically oriented research in the field of CPA. He is a board member of the Austrian Society of Pulmonary Medicine (ÖGP) and the European Respiratory Society (ERS).
