Professor Dr. med. Dieter Buchheidt received his medical degree from the University of Heidelberg, Germany, in 1980. He is Associate Professor at the Department of Hematology and Oncology, University Hospital of Mannheim / University of Heidelberg.
Dieter Buchheidt is board certified in internal medicine, hematology, oncology, infectious diseases and intensive care medicine.
His clinical and scientific interests are focused on the diagnosis and treatment of infections in severely immunocompromised patients, in particular on the molecular/biomarker based diagnostic work-up and characterization (azole resistance) of Aspergillus infections in hematology patients.
He is a reviewer for several scientific journals and Editorial Board member for “Fungal Biology and Biotechnology” and “BMC Infectious Diseases”.
Dieter Buchheidt is a member of academic and scientific societies involved in hematology and in infectious diseases, including DGHO (member of the scientific Advisory Board of the ID Working Group of the German Society of Hematology and Oncology (DGHO-AGIHO)), European Leukemia Net, DGI (German Society of Infectiology), Paul-Ehrlich-Gesellschaft (head of the Section “Infections in Hematology and Oncology”) , DMykG (Deutschsprachige Mykologische Gesellschaft) (Vice-President), EORTC (EORTC-IDG), ESCMID (EFISG), and EAPCRI/FPCRI.
