George Dimopoulos is Associate Professor of Critical Care in the Department of Intensive Care at University Hospital “ATTIKON” Medical School, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, in Athens, Greece.
Prof. Dimopoulos earned his medical degree and doctoral thesis from the University of Athens and completed his residency in pulmonology and in intensive care medicine with SOTIRIA Hospital in Athens. His postgraduate work in Brussels (Erasme Free University) and in USA included research in fungal infections, in sepsis and severe infections in critically ill patients and in severe infections in patients with human immunodeficiency virus.
In addition to his responsibilities at the University of Athens, Prof. Dimopoulos is frequently invited to lecture at Greek and international congresses, conferences, and symposia. He has published more than 200 original papers and reviews as well as 60 book chapters in the Greek and international literature. He serves as a reviewer for several peer-reviewed journals, including Thorax, ERJ, Critical Care, Chest, Medical Mycology, Respiratory Medicine, Respiration, Respiratory Research, and European Respiratory Journal etc. Also, Prof Dimopoulos serves as Associate Editor of BMC Infect Dis and Frontiers in Medicine Journal.
Prof. Dimopoulos is the former chair of the Respiratory Infections Assembly of the European Respiratory Society (ERS) and of the Infection Section of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM).
