Dr. Vinaykumar Hallur is a clinical microbiologist at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bhubaneswar, India. He earned his MBBS from Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College in 2007 and completed his MD in Microbiology at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, in 2011.

After receiving his MD, Hallur worked as a Senior Resident at PGIMER, Chandigarh, from 2012 to 2015. In 2016, he joined AIIMS Bhubaneswar as an Assistant Professor, where he established a mycology laboratory and contributed to medical education and research. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2019 and later to Additional Professor in 2021, where he leads the Advanced Molecular and Diagnostic Research Centre for Fungi for East India.

Vinaykumar’s research focuses on understanding the epidemiology and molecular diagnostics of fungal pathogens. He has discovered Cunninghamella arunalokei and described rare fungi causing infections in India.

He has authored over 60 peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals and secured major grants from agencies such as the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). He is actively involved in professional societies, including the Indian Society of Medical Mycology, and Mycoasia.
