Dr. Norman van Rhijn is a Wellcome Trust Early Career Fellow working on links between climate change and fungal diseases. He obtained his BSc from Leiden University in Biology with a minor in Cellular and Molecular Microbiology and his MSc in Medical Mycology at the University of Manchester working with the Mycology Reference Centre at Wythenshawe Hospital. His PhD was on transcriptional regulators during Aspergillus fumigatus infection which he obtained at the Manchester Fungal Infection Group at the University of Manchester.
His current work focuses on a range of fungal diseases and the impacts of changing environments in changing epidemiology, evolution and emergence of fungal pathogens. He has published over 30 peer reviewed articles. He is an Executive Member of the British Society for Medical Mycology and serves on the MBio ECR Editorial Board.
