Timoleon-Achilleas Vyzantiadis, MD, PhD is Professor of Medical Biopathology-Microbiology, Director of the Department of Microbiology at the Medical School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece) and Head of the Laboratory of Medical Mycology of the above Faculty.
His main scientific interest is the laboratory diagnosis and monitoring of fungal infections, having the responsibility of operating a major Medical Mycology reference laboratory for Northern Greece by applying all internationally proposed methodologies and focusing mainly on applied research related to fungal infections, their diagnosis and monitoring. At the same time, he deals with wider applications of Laboratory Medicine, as it is described in the context of the medical specialty of Biopathology (Laboratory Medicine).
He is the author of numerous full-length articles in scientific journals and books and has been invited to speak at plenty national and international conferences, seminars, workshops and postgraduate courses and has organised or co-organised many national and international scientific events, conferences, educational and work seminars, mainly connected to Medical Mycology.
He teaches Medical Microbiology, Medical Mycology, Clinical Microbiology and Biopathology-Laboratory Medicine to the undergraduate students of Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, as well as in a large number of postgraduate programs, courses and work seminars in Greece and abroad to medical specialists and interns, as well as other related scientists, both at Aristotle University and other academic and medical institutions.
