The Academy of the European Confederation of Medical Mycology: Big Success in Europe and Abroad
03-04-2017
In September 2016, the European Confederation of Medical Mycology (ECMM) launched the ECMM Academy, by electing the first Fellow of the ECMM (FECMM). Through April 2017 a total of 36 key opinion leaders in the field of Medical Mycology were accepted in the Academy, and acknowledged with FECMM status.
While the majority of FECMM originate from ECMM member countries, the Academy has proven to be also very successful in reaching out to experts abroad: 28% of FECMM are key opinion leaders from outside Europe (i.e. from the United States, Canada, Australia and India). The Academy therefore contributes towards establishing the ECMM as one of the leading scientific organizations in the field of Clinical Mycology, unifying scientists from around the world.
The mission of the ECMM Academy is to recognize scientists for outstanding contributions to medical mycology and provide mycological expertise in the service of science and the public. FECMM are elected through a highly selective, peer-review process, based on their records of scientific achievement and original contributions that have advanced clinical mycology.
