Award for Research on Fungal Infections: Attributable mortality of candidemia – Results from the ECMM Candida III multinational European observational cohort study

GEMICOMED—the Study Group for Fungal Infections of the Spanish Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (SEIMC)—has awarded its 4th Young Researcher Award to Dr. Jon Salmanton-García from the ECMM Excellence Centre at the University Hospital Cologne, Germany.
Dr. Salmanton-García receives this recognition for his significant contribution to the article “Attributable mortality of candidemia – Results from the ECMM Candida III multinational European observational cohort study” (doi: 10.1016/j.jinf.2024.106229), published as part of the ECMM Candida III project. This major international initiative seeks to enhance the understanding and management of invasive candidiasis across diverse healthcare settings worldwide.
In early 2023, Dr. Salmanton-García was appointed Fellow of the European Confederation of Medical Mycology (ECMM), an initiative that recognizes outstanding expertise in medical mycology. Beyond his research in infectious diseases, he is also committed to science communication and outreach.
