Development of the European QUALity (EQUAL) score for mucormycosis management in haematology

Mucormycosis is a life-threatening infection in immunocompromised patients and in haematological malignancy patients in particular. Current guidelines of scientific societies on mucormycosis management were reviewed for diagnostic, treatment and follow-up milestones. They were assembled to design a scoring tool to measure adherence to current guidelines with regard to mucormycosis management – the EQUAL Mucormycosis Score – which now has been published.

For ease of use, we have summarized the EQUAL scores on laminate pocket cards, which so far have been translated into English, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Polish, Portuguese and Russian, Spanish and Turkish. It provides a tool to support antifungal stewardship and to quantify guideline adherence.
