Dimitrios Kontoyiannis to give the honorific Joseph E. Smadel Lecture at IDWeek 2025

Dr. Dimitrios Kontoyiannis, head of the Houston ECMM Excellence center and FECMM, has been nominated to give the honorific Joseph E. Smadel Lecture at IDWeek 2025. He has accepted and will give this lecture on Wednesday, Oct. 22 at 9:15 a.m. ET.

The Joseph E. Smadel Lecture is intended to honor someone whose science and investigations have impacted the understanding of the epidemiology, prevention, pathogenesis and/or control of infectious diseases in global public health. The Committee believes his work on invasive fungal infections, antifungal resistance, and immune-pharmacologic approaches to control opportunistic fungi will make for an important presentation for the infectious diseases community.
