The 2025 Medical Mycology Course (on-site Institut Pasteur campus, Paris) is intended
for microbiologists (MDs, PharmDs, PhDs & veterinarians) who want to stay up to date on the latest developments in diagnosis and identification techniques and the fundamentals of therapy for invasive fungal diseases (IFD).
Lectures, laboratory sessions, and interactive panel discussions will be conducted in
English, covering various technical and medical aspects related to pathogenic fungi.
LABORATORY TECHNIQUES
Choice of media, mount preparation, slide cultures, strain preservation, molecular diagnosis & identification (PCR, qPCR, sequencing, MADLI-TOF), typing techniques (microsatellite, MLST), antifungal susceptibility testing (CLSI/EUCAST broth microdilution methods, commercially available tests), antigen/antibody detection, histopathology.
FUNGAL BIOLOGY & ANTIFUNGAL PHARMACOLOGY
Asexual and sexual reproduction, taxonomy and databases, phylogeny, WGS approaches.
Antifungal drugs spectrum of action & pharmacokinetics/dynamics, antifungal resistance, the role of the laboratory in diagnosing and monitoring patients.
IN CLINICAL PRACTICE
Pathogenic concepts, epidemiology, outbreak investigations, diagnostic criteria for IFDs, principles of therapeutic management, practical guidelines and discussion of clinical cases.
