Stéphane Bretagne is a Senior Clinical Mycologist at the University Sorbonne Paris Cité, head of the Mycology Laboratory of the Saint Louis Hospital, Paris, and Deputy Director of the National Reference Center of Mycoses and Antifungals, Institut Pasteur, Paris. He received his M.D. from the Medical Faculty of University Paris Val de Marne, Créteil, France in 1984. He pursued his training in parasitology and mycology until receiving his PhD in 1993. He had first a broad interest in tropical infectious diseases and has specialized more specifically in fungal diseases of immunocompromised patients since 1995. He is one of the founder members of the European Aspergillus PCR Initiative (EAPCRI) laboratory group for the reappraisal of PCR for the diagnosis of invasive aspergillosis. He is regularly invited at the European Conference on Infections in Leukemia (ECIL) for the diagnosis of fungal diseases. He has published more than 200 peer-reviewed papers.
