Dr. Vergidis is an Infectious Disease physician with expertise in Medical Mycology and infections in the immunocompromised host. He trained in Infectious Diseases at Boston Medical Center and Transplant Infectious Diseases at Mayo Clinic. He was on the faculty at the University of Pittsburgh and the UK National Aspergillosis Center at the University of Manchester.
Dr. Vergidis is currently the director of the Hematology-Oncology Infectious Disease Service at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He is a faculty member of the Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and the co-director of the Microbiology course for the Medical School. He has published over 100 articles and book chapters. He is the site principal investigator of several clinical trials on novel antifungal medications.
Dr. Vergidis is a Fellow of the European Confederation of Medical Mycology and the Infectious Disease Society of America. Dr. Vergidis serves on the Board of Directors of the Mycoses Study Group Education & Research Consortium (MSGERC). He is an editor for ASM Microbiology Spectrum and a scientific committee member for Clinical Microbiology & Infection.
